This charming restaurant expertly blends classic Italian culinary traditions with a contemporary touch, offering an intimate atmosphere that invites both quiet dinners and lively family gatherings.
The menu at Bistro Romano is a celebration of Italy’s rich flavors, crafted with care and high-quality ingredients. Signature dishes like the Lobster Ravioli, bursting with succulent Maine lobster smothered in a luscious tomato sherry cream, and the Short Rib Ravioli, filled with tender slow-cooked short rib and caramelized onions, showcase the kitchen’s mastery of pasta perfection. If you’re looking for something deeply satisfying, the Fettucine Bolognese offers a rich, smoky blend of beef, veal, pork, and bacon—the kind of hearty dish that warms you to the core.
For lighter fare or sharing plates, favorites include the Grilled Octopus and the Mussels, the latter hailed by one delighted guest as "the best he ever had," served in an extraordinary sauce that perfectly complements the tender shellfish. The menu's versatility shines in options like the gluten-free gnocchi and the refined Veal Saltimbocca, providing a thoughtful experience for varied palates.
Desserts at Bistro Romano are not to be overlooked. The Pistachio Tiramisu offers a nutty twist on the classic espresso-soaked delight, while the decadent Grand Marnier Crème Brulee entices with its silky custard and caramelized sugar crust. The ever-popular Carrot Cake, layered with a tangy cream cheese frosting, is a sweet finish that lingers warmly on the palate.
Bistro Romano’s intimate ambiance elevates every visit. With cozy seating downstairs for a quiet, romantic experience and a lively upstairs bar featuring live piano music, it perfectly adapts to your mood—whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply indulging in a midweek pasta and wine special. Guests regularly return for the affordable yet exceptional Wednesday and Thursday night $20 pasta and wine deals, proving that top-quality Italian cuisine can beautifully marry value and flavor.
The staff’s knowledgeable service further enhances the experience, guiding guests through a stellar wine list that includes sparkling Champagnes and aromatic Moscatos, ideal for pairing with anything from the delicate Garganelli to the robust Venison.

We love bistro! I came across them randomly one day and I started getting their emails about their $20 pasta and wine specials on Wed/Thurs nights and man I have been a fan since. You cannot beat the prices or quality! We usually order other menu items along with the special depending on how hungry we are and we’ve ordered outside the pasta special a few times. My partner ordered lobster ravioli once. I tried it but wasn’t a huge fan however i loved the crab ravioli. So you just make your way through the menu. Everything I’ve personally ordered has been a 10/10. Also the decor and whole vibe of the restaurant is awesome. Highly recommend for a date night, solo date, or just hanging with friends at the bar. The staff the hostess, bar staff, and waiters /waitresses are amazing. Always pleasant and attentive. Such a great atmosphere! Oh yeah and they have a small wine shop to purchase bottles!
Went to dinner Mother’s Day weekend and the food and service was good. We had the moscato wine, lamb chops and carrot cake which was really good. They have a great wine selection. There was live music upstairs near the bar but we sat downstairs which is more quiet and intimate.
We did the tasting menu with my parents. Great meal for a family gathering - just try to avoid the tight bench seats! The atmosphere is very very nice, and food is fantastic / classic Italian. The service is also very good - they seem to have a knowledgeable wait staff. In the future, we’ll try to get the private room in the cellar - it looked very nice!
A great well hidden spot in society hill. Make sure to get a reservation or put your name on the list as they have super limited walk ins! The ambiance was dark, and the piano music was incredible for a great date night! We ended up seated on a table next to the stairs, felt a bit cramped and in the middle of the walking paths, but otherwise the vibes were impeccable. Prices were very fair for the city! The focaccia with whipped ricotta was so light and creamy, and the balsamic glaze was the perfect sweet savory counter. The chicken parm was perfectly crispy, and the cheese was melty and fresh. The accompanying pasta was cooked al dente and with a nice sweet tomato sauce. Wine menu was very extensive and a sommelier made a fantastic recommendation. Calcio e Pepe brussel sprouts were out of this world, a bit lemony but otherwise perfectly seasoned. Will definitely be back for more!
My husband said the mussels are the best he ever had. The sauce was amazing. I really enjoyed the focaccia with both ricotta and mussels. Wonderful birthday dinner here.
The most romantic and chill atmosphere! Perfect for a date night, anniversary, or a birthday dinner Food was delicious and service was amazing. We made reservations but I’m sure you can just walk in and you wouldn’t wait long. You can sit in the secluded wine cellar (but im sure you have to call well in advance as there is only one spot) tldr: great vibes, great italian food and great wine.
We’ve been to Bistro Romano twice now, and it’s officially one of our favorite restaurants in Philly. The food is absolutely delicious,- the ossobuco and gnocchi are standout dishes that we keep dreaming about! The Montepulciano wine paired perfectly with everything, adding that extra special touch to both visits. A huge shoutout to Kishore, our server on both occasions. He’s incredibly attentive, knowledgeable, and guided us through the menu with warmth and genuine hospitality. He truly makes you feel right at home, and his positive attitude adds so much to the experience. Our first visit was for the tasting menu, and the second was à la carte.- both were flawless. The atmosphere is cozy yet elegant, making it perfect for date nights, dinners with friends, or even something more special. Kishore mentioned they also host private events, which we’re definitely keeping in mind. It’s the perfect spot for a private party or celebration. Can’t wait to return!
